For the stained-glass windows of the Silvacane Abbey refectory, Sarkis invited five members of the same family to stamp their handprints onto glass panes. On a second pane laid down on the first, he composed the tone and tempo of these imprints by overlaying his own handprints. About this handprint design, its space and light, the artist wrote: “The interior décor of the refectory is essentially floral. The handprints on the stained glass windows recall drifting gold-coloured petals, a swarm of bees, or golden rain. The light first shines through the imprints on the exterior glass, then the imprints on the interior glass, before filtering into the refectory. The interior light is directed by the partition of handprints.” This catalogue presents around twenty of the artist’s 110 watercolour Ikones executed within frames that Sarkis collected from around the world.
